「晨读音频」

Hello everyone! And welcome to my channel! I'm Reevs. Good morning!

大家好,欢迎来到懒人英语晨读栏目,我是Reevs,早上好呀!

I’ve got an intermediate lesson today about spending money.

今天我有一堂关于花钱的中级课程。

We’re going to be listening to a business meeting as a company describes how they’re spending money.

我们要听的是一个公司如何花钱的商业会议。

Okay, let’s listen to the dialogue first.

好的,我们先来听对话。

「对话文本」

A: OK, so now the last point on our agenda. Jill, let's go over the profit and loss statement.

好的,现在最后一项议程。吉尔,我们再仔细查看下损益表。

B: Great. Well, the main issue here, as you can see, is that our expenses are through the roof.

噢,这儿,主要问题,可以看到,我们的开支增加了。

A: Let's see... These numbers are off the charts! What's going on here!

我看看。。这些数额已经超出预算了!这到底怎么回事!

B: Well, um, sir, the company expenditures on entertainment and travel are out of control. Look at these bills for example. Just this month we've paid over twenty thousand dollars for hotel charges!

额,先生,公司在招待和出差的费用没有节制,看看这些账单。就这个月,我们已经支付了超过2万美元的酒店费用。

A: OK, thank you. I'll look into it.

好的,谢谢,我会调查此事。

B: The list goes on and on. Here, this is a bill for five thousand dollars for spa treatments!

这样的例子不胜枚举。看这,5万美元的SPA服务账单。

A: Thank you; that will be all. I'll take care of it.

谢谢,先就这样。我会处理的。

B: Look at this one sir, eight thousand dollars were spent in one night at a place called ”Wild Things”?!

再看这个,在一个叫“野兽”的地方一晚花费8万美元!

A: OK, I get it!! Thank you for your very thorough analysis!

好的,我知道了。非常谢谢你的彻底分析。

「重要发音技巧」

Welcome back. Let's look at some important pronunciation tips in the dialogue.

欢迎回来,现在一起来看一下对话中重要的发音技巧。

辅元连读 Flap T:out of

对话中:The company expenditures on entertainment and travel are out of control.

连读分析:前一个单词词尾为辅音,后一个单词开头为元音的时候,可以做辅元连读,读为/aʊtəv/。

Flap T 分析:/t/在两个元音之间且非重读的时候,/t/可以读为一个很轻的/d/, 所以读为/aʊtəv/。

复述:The company expenditures on entertainment and travel are out of control.

2. 辅元连读 Flap T:get it

对话中:I get it.

连读分析:前一个单词词尾为辅音,后一个单词开头为元音的时候,可以做辅元连读,读为/ɡetɪt/。

Flap T 分析:/t/在两个元音之间且非重读的时候,/t/可以读为一个很轻的/d/, 所以读为/ɡetɪt/。

复述:I get it.

「核心单词掌握」

OK, I think it’s time to talk about key words in the dialogue.

好了,现在是时候来讲解一下对话中的核心词汇了。

So the first word is expense.

那么第一个单词是expense。

1.expense/ɪkˈspens/ n. 开销

(表示开销时,一般用作复数expenses)

So, expenses are things that you have to spend money on regularly.

所以,开销是你必须定期花钱的东西。

For example, in a company, regular company expenses are salaries or office supplies or the phone bills, internet bills.

举个例子,在一个公司里,正常的公司开销是工资,办公用品,电话费,网络费。那除了公司里的费用,还有一种很常见的开支,就是household expenses — 家庭开支。

It might be your food, perhaps your transportation or your rent or your heating bills, so, these are all things you spend money on regularly.

可能是你的食物,交通,房租,或者取暖费,这些都是你经常花钱的东西。

Okay, so, let’s move on to our second word - expenditure.

好的,那么,现在让我们来看看我们的第二个词expenditure。

2. expenditure/ ɪkˈspendɪtʃər/ n. 支出

(表示支出时,可用作可数,也可以用作不可数)

So, expenditures sound pretty close to expenses, right?

所以,支出听起来很接近开支,对不对?

It’s pretty similar, but it has a little bit of a difference, so, why don’t we listen to some examples and see if we can understand?

很相似,但有一点不同,那么,我们为什么不听一些例子,看看我们是否能理解呢?

Example 1(例1) :

Dear fellow and president I will increase expenditures on health and education by twelve percent (12%).

亲爱的同伴和总统,我将增加12 %的卫生和教育支出。

Example 2(例2):

We really need to control our travel expenditures. From now on all managers will fly economy class.

我们真的需要控制旅行开支,从现在起所有经理都坐经济舱。

So, expenditures is the total amount of money that you’re spending on something.

所以,支出是指你花在某件事上的总金额。

Now let’s move on to our third word - analysis.

让我们继续来看我们的第三个单词 analysis。

3. analysis /əˈnæləsɪs/ n. 分析

Dialogue里面Sir提出感谢Jill的彻底分析,说道:Thank you for your very thorough analysis!

这一句话就非常实用,同样也可以用在我们去表达,感谢自己的同事或者合作伙伴做的分析。

像刚才Jill在对话里进行分析,我们就可以表达为conduct/perform an analysis — 进行分析。

「实用口语表达」

Now, let’s look at some useful phrases.

现在让我们进入实用短语学习。

Let’s take a look at our first phrase for today – go over.

现在让我们来看今天的第一个短语 — go over。

1. go over 仔细检查

This is a really common phrase and it basically means “look at something carefully”.

这是一个非常常见的短语,它的基本意思是“仔细看”。

For example, I need to go over this report one last time to make sure there’re no mistakes.

例如,我需要最后检查一遍这份报告,以确保没有错误。

Now let's look at our second phrase and it's “through the roof”.

现在让我们看看我们第二个短语,它是through the roof。

2. through the roof 激增

So, when something is through the roof, it’s really, really, really high.

所以当事情是激增的时候,它是非常,非常,非常高。

So, for example, we can talk about gas prices are through the roof lately.

所以,例如, 我们可以谈论最近汽油价格猛涨。

So our third phrase is “off the charts”.

所以我们第三个短语是“off the charts”。

3. off the charts 打破纪录

So, this one is very similar to through the roof. It also means really high.

所以,这个词和激增很像。这也意味着非常高。

So, let’s listen to some examples of how we can use off the charts in a different situation.

那么,让我们来听一些例子,我们如何在不同的情况下使用打破纪录。

Example (例1):

Excellent job Susan! Your sales are off the charts this year.

干得好,苏珊!你今年的销售量破纪录了。

Example (例2):

Our losses are off the charts! That’s it! No bonuses for anyone!

我们的损失太大了!够了!没有奖金!

那在这里,可以把off the charts换为through the roof吗?答案是可以的,可以使用off the charts或through the roof,两者的意思是一样 。它们在商业场合很常用。

Now let's look at our last phrase. And it's “out of control”.

现在我们来看最后一个短语,它是“out of control”。

4. out of control 失去控制

So, when something is out of control, it’s…It’s crazy.

所以,当一件事情失去控制的时候,这…这太疯狂了。

Crazy, you can’t control it and you can’t stop it.

疯狂,你控制不了,你也阻止不了的。

For example, those children are completely out of control.

那些孩子们彻底无法无天了。

Now, it's time for us to review what we've learned today.

现在我们来回顾一下今天所学习的,要跟上我一起来认真回顾,思考起来。

「今日所学回顾」
